Meet Marissa Dabkowski | Shoreline Moms

We are thrilled to feature and introduce you all to Marissa Dabkowski, Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach at Funktion Fitness in Old Saybrook. Follow her at @marissadab819 and give her a call to set up a complimentary fitness consultation.

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?
I have lived in Higganum for 6 years but originally grew up in Wallingford. I’ve spent a lot of time along the Shoreline over the years though. My girls went to preschool in Madison and I now work in Old Saybrook.

Do you have any children? What are their ages?
I have 3 children. Two girls, and a boy – Gianna (age 9), Gabriella (age 7) and Noah (age 2)

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I can come across as quiet. It takes me some time to warm up!

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
I didn’t have my mother to give me parenting advice, and even though my sister doesn’t have children, she was always very supportive and helpful. My friends also all had kids the same age as mine, so it was nice to become parents together.

Favorite things to do with your kids?
We love to swim at our pool, go to the beach, go skiing, ride bikes, travel different places, play sports…really anything that keeps them moving.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
I am a Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach at Funktion Fitness in Old Saybrook. I love seeing a change in people, especially new Moms! I think it’s so important to feel strong and confident in yourself. Plus, it’s to a fun way to meet new friends, learn new exercises, understand the basics of good nutrition and be held accountable. I am super passionate about helping people eat, move and live better! I encourage you to follow me on Instagram @marissadab819 for weekly nutrition updates and key concepts of functional training. Or contact me for a complimentary fitness consultation (203-623-7128).

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
Living in Higganum has been wonderful. My neighborhood friends have been so supportive, everyone is always looking after everyone else’s kids, you never have to worry. However, you’re a far drive from everything so I tend to spend a lot of my time on the shoreline. I enjoy the beaches and parks, downtown shopping, and many of the local restaurants and small businesses. I’ve recognized the importance of networking. It’s a great way of getting to know someone better and finding ways they might be able to help you and how you can help them in return. I display a sincere interest in connecting with others which has helped me professionally.
