Meet Laurie and Mary Beth, the moms behind TheShorelineMoms.com

Laurie and Mary Beth were fast friends when they met at the Scranton Memorial Library in Madison back in the the Spring of 2013 while attending a Story Time session with their kids.  At the time they had 5 children between them, but since their families have grown and they now have 8 children between them, ranging in age from 10- 7 months, and only one boy in the group!  Laurie and her husband are Shoreline natives, while Mary Beth and her husband moved their family to the shoreline almost 6 years ago from NJ and quickly fell in love with all things CT Shoreline.

What do you like best about living on the shoreline?
That’s simple….the beach!  There is such a great sense of community in every shoreline town I’ve been to.  Probably not something that I can attribute to the beach, but it seems to be what they all share in common so why not?  There is something about the salt air that just is good for the soul!

What is your favorite thing to do on the shoreline?
Pack up the kids and a cooler and head to the beach. It always amazes me how even though I’m in my own “backyard” I feel like I’m a million miles away from day-to-day life. I truly feel blessed to be able to spend all day with sandy salty kids, run home long enough to toss some food (and drinks) into a cooler and be back before the sun sets for dinner – and do it all at a moments notice. Of course there are always great activities any time of year all over the shoreline – but nothing beats the summer time!

What is a go-to easy recipe for your family or entertaining?
I have the pickiest eaters that are walking the planet, and I’m sure you all don’t want to know how to heat up chicken nuggets or make Mac & Cheese. I do love entertaining though, and I do love myself a great app or dip! My favorite easy entertaining recipe (aside from cheese and crackers on a board, because honestly…what is easier than that!?) is this white pizza dip.  It’s easy and delicious.

What is your best piece of advice for other moms?
Everything is going to be A-Okay! Some days feel like a war zone, and other days you feel like you should be penning a best selling book on how to master this parenting thing but at the end of the day….everything will be A-Okay. Some days your kids will be perfect angels and go to bed with a perfect protein-to-veggie ratio in their bellies and clean freshly bathed hair on their head…and other days you feel like you’re going to lose your mind repeating the same thing over and over, you count fruit snacks as a food group, run a wet wipe over their face and call it a day. Which ever path your day takes, tomorrow is another chance to do it all over again and in the end your kids think you’re amazing and I’m okay with that as a victory.

What excites you most about TheShorelineMoms.com?
I grew up here and so did my husband, we still have family and friends that are local and I LOVE it here. I’m the most excited to share that love with any and every one that wants to be a part of it. There are such great events, activities, shops, restaurants and everything in between all along this gorgeous coast and I’m excited to share it with everyone. I’m also excited to rediscover an area I feel so familiar with. From Branford to Stonington there will never be a weekend that isn’t filled with some sort of fun and adventure and I’m excited to do that with all of you!

What do you like best about living on the shoreline?
My favorite part about living on the Shoreline is that we always have access to the beach. Whenever I have the free time I drive down by the water, or as we call it “buzz the beach”. Rarely does a week go by when I don’t watch at least one sunset with my kids.  I never knew how much I would love living by the water, or how much salt air can fix just about any bad mood. I feel so grateful that we live here amidst so much beauty!

What is your favorite thing to do on the shoreline?
Where to begin?! I love to pack a picnic dinner and head down to The Surf Club in Madison during the summer. The kids play on the playground and in the sand, and my husband and I can have a glass of wine and watch the sunset. We also love to go for long walks or bike rides at Hammonasset Beach State Park on their new trail.

What is a go-to easy recipe for your family or entertaining?
We are all about soup in my house, especially buffalo chicken chili! For entertaining I love making buffalo chicken dip… Umm I’m sensing a theme here, ha!

What is your best advice for other moms?
Don’t sweat the small stuff. There will always be piles of laundry, spilled milk, and picky eaters. Focus on the small victories and if taking one day at a time is too much, then just take one moment at a time. Also, you aren’t in this alone. Hopefully our website will help you!

What excites your most about TheShorelineMoms.com?
When we moved to the Shoreline we literally knew nothing about the area and had so many questions. Slowly we learned more and more and uncovered some great gems. I’m so happy to be able to save time for the moms that are new to the area, as well as share my love of the Shoreline!
